Coffee Questions

Tips for brewing the best cup
   of Kaldi's Coffee at home

  1. Grind beans just before brewing.
  2. Use fresh, cold water, drawn from a faucet that has been allowed to run a few seconds, or use bottled spring water.
  3. Use a Kaldi's Coffee Measure, or about 1 1/2 Tablespoons of ground coffee per six-ounces of water.
  4. Be sure your brewing equipment is clean and free of mineral deposits. Rinsing with vinegar breaks up build-up.
  5. Avoid over boiling your water, which produces a flat-tasting cup of coffee. Instead, bring the coffee to a quick boil, then let cool a few seconds. Kaldi's Coffee is best brewed at 195 F.
  6. Remember to warm your cup or mug before you pour in your Kaldi's Coffee.

How to store your Kaldi's
   freshly micro-roasted coffee at home

Like any other agricultural product, coffee has a limited shelf life. The best package for your Kaldi's Coffee is the whole bean itself. Buying your coffee in whole bean form will provide you with fresh-tasting coffee for up to six weeks.

Please don't refrigerate your coffee. The refrigerator is a moist environment. Since the roasting process dries the coffee, refrigeration will turn the coffee beans into a magnet for food smells and humidity. The best place to store your beans is in an air-tight, opaque canister on your kitchen counter or in the pantry.

There's no need to freeze whole bean coffee, unless you are buying in large quantities you cannot consume within a month. If you need to freeze coffee over an extended period of time, make sure it's in a moisture-proof, air-tight container. Airtight freezer bags are ideal. Also, try not to freeze, thaw and then refreeze coffee. The volatile oils are actually caramelized sugars and will degrade under such conditions. Instead, transfer small quantities at a time from the freezer. Once thawed, keep the coffee in an airtight, opaque container for up to six weeks.

If you must order your coffee preground, buy in quantities you can consume within a week. Kaldi's Coffee Roasting Company has packaging that will keep your coffee fresh for months. We feature one-way, foil valve bags that are heat sealed to ensure freshness until the package is opened.

Remember to warm your cup or mug before you pour in your Kaldi's Coffee.
